missariannaabrams:

Arianna laughed. “Well, I really want to do well. I’m thinking about maybe going into translation when I’m older. Like, travelling around and interpreting for people. I think that could be amazing” she said honestly with a little nod. Anything to get out of the country and away from her mad family would be fun, but anyway. She moved and took a sip of her drink and watched him closely.

“Oh totally” she laughed as she smiled at him. “It’s just small aspects of grammar that I stumble on” she sighed as she flicked through some of the papers and pointed certain aspects of what was on them to him. She moved her chair a little closer, feeling her skin heat up- she wasn’t lucky she wasn’t real fair skinned or anything, it was harder to tell when she felt like this. “So, how did you get into teaching?” she asked him curiously, looking up at him and tilting her head a little.

To be honest, he was surprised by her explanation. It was true that most teenagers dreamed of travelling the world, Europe being one of the places that they find most enchanting, but none of the mutters he had heard before seemed as genuine as what the girl in front of him was. “Being an interpreter, that’s not something that I’ve heard from most people. But it’s a definitely good dream to have. I know a few people, and aside from having good pay, they get to travel a lot. Is traveling something you like doing?”

Mister Torres followed her finger as she pointed at the parts where she was having trouble with, and he nodded, understanding why she had some troubles with it. Speaking the language was only the first step of studying a language. There was always grammar and correct use, and that was mostly the tricky part. It wasn’t just about memorizing now, but applying and practicing.

He paused to think, not noticing the distance that had narrowed between them as he tried to remember what brought him to teaching. “It was always a love for Spain for me first. I love the country, the culture and the people, and I don’t know. Teaching the language helps spread the appreciation to a culture, you know?” He took a pencil and began to scribble some notes on the piece of paper to help her out. “It’s things like these, you know, students appreciating the hard work, that makes me proud to be a teacher.”

missariannaabrams:

Ari looked into the mirror, smoothing out her pretty yet short deep blue dress. She moved and grabbed her school bag, slinging it over her shoulder before heading down and out of the busy house. She was soon near the coffee shop, smiling to herself as she approached. She had to admit that she was nervous; beyond nervous. She’d crushed on her Spanish teacher for ages, like serious. But it wasn’t like she’d ever thought about pursuing it. She just… she just liked being around him. He was nice, a really nice guy. It was hard to think of him as her teacher.

She moved and waved over when she spotted him, moving and sitting at the table, dumping her bag on the floor, brushing back curls behind her ears before grabbing some pens from her bag and sitting up straight to look at him. “Hi” she smiled before looking down at the drinks. “Oh, thank you” she said as she moved to take a sip of the coffee, perfect. She looked back up at him, blushing only a little. “It’s awesome of you to take time out to do this” she said softly.

Angelo waved back with similar enthusiasm  as she had when he had spotted her. He nodded and smiled, greeting the student with pleasantries before she sat down. The spanish teacher slid the drink towards her and nodded as she said her thanks. “Are you kidding me? It’s not all the time that my students actually want to learn, let alone spend their weekend studying. I’ll take any takers I can get!” He let out a genuine laugh, meaning most of what it was he had said. He appreciated students that went out of their way to learn, and Arianna Abrams was doing just that.

His eyes fell on the papers on the table, before looking back at the student, eyebrows raised slightly. “So, what did you want to brush up on? I mean, you got a good grade during our last exam.Or is this just a way to one-up all your other classmates?” The cheeky grin posed from his face as he asked that, wondering if it had been true or not. He grabbed his own coffee, bringing it up to his lips and taking a quick sip from it.

— no hablo español [arianna/angelo]

It was a cloudy Sunday afternoon when Angelo pulled over at the nearest coffee shop. He had spoken to Arianna earlier about her request at a quick tutorial session to help her with her Spanish. Miss Abrams wasn’t the best in her class, but she really didn’t do so bad, as far as Mr. Torres was concerned, but he had figured maybe she just wanted to pull up her grades even more. The Spanish teacher wasn’t one to question someone’s desire to learn.

He marched into the coffee shop, straightening out his shirt and securing the baseball cap over his head. It looked like she wasn’t here yet. A quick shrug, he made his way to the counter and ordered two cups of coffee, one decaf, just in case his student preferred not taking too much caffeine in her drinks before taking a seat. He pulled out the small envelope that he had tucked in his sides earlier and spread out the papers across the table, ready for when Arianna arrives.

Sleep is for the weak Mr. Torres

Ah, I remember saying those words not too long ago. I think I will stay up a bit more before heading off. No parties today, Mr. Pierce-Lopez?

Nah, I think most people are tired from the play, so I’m just going home and hanging out with my girlfriend.

Ah, well, the play was wonderful. You were all amazing and you all need some well deserved rest.
